About Brittany

Brittany Nettles (she/they) is a choreographer, dancer, and educator based in the Pittsburgh area. They received their BFA in Dance from Point Park University in 2020, under faculty Garfield Lemonius, Jason McDole, Kiesha Lalama and Kiki Lucas. Brittany has been a company member with Shana Simmons dance since 2022, where they perform a variety of contemporary dance styles for diverse venues across the Pittsburgh area. They have also had the opportunity to choreograph a number of works for the company, including "I Feel Love 12" and creating dance films for the Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival. Brittany was selected to create new work for Texture Contemporary Ballet's annual Choreography Project in 2024 and 2025, where her pieces were performed by Texture's company members at the Greer Cabaret Theater. 

Brittany is lucky to work as a dance educator, teaching a wide range of ages and styles. At Point Park University, Brittany serves as an adjunct faculty member of modern dance at the School of Dance. Their classes at Point Park are designed to provide students with a foundation of modern technique that prepares them for professional material, including release technique, contemporary floor work and other modern styles. At Act One Theater School, Brittany acts as Dance Coordinator and Head Choreographer for the kindergarten through 8th grade programs. Working with over 200 students annually, Brittany choreographs the annual full length musical and designs the curriculum for dance classes, collaborating with other choreographers, the directors, the music director, production staff and other teachers to create a high level production. As someone who likes to wear many hats, Brittany is passionate about every step of the creative process. She has experience in costume design/construction, stage management, lighting design, and arts administration. Whether it's hemming a costume, editing a video or troubleshooting tech problems, she finds joy in problem solving and making the show go on.

Brittany's work as an artist is a world of vibrant colors, creative play, unfiltered thoughts, and exploration of truth. As a choreographer this is presented through her contemporary movement style, and creating work that centers queer, femme identities. Using a multitude of mediums in her work, her work often borders the line between dance and theater.

Brittany's mission as an artist is to explore and reveal the complexities of the human experience through innovative, interdisciplinary art for diverse audiences. Her vision is to inspire people to be more critical in their perceptions of themselves, their communities, and the world at large.
